Can I be four again?

If the 'Back to the Future' time machine car worked, I would be really tempted to use it.
Lately it seems like time is flying. I could sneeze and be blown into next week. Well not really but you get it. Some days I like feeling older. And others I want to swing with a mouth full of Sixlets while "Oops I did it again" blares over my boom box. Easter just passed and it was the first one since I was born that we haven't hid and looked for easter eggs. I stopped actually looking for them a long time ago when I started thinking strategically about it. Taking into consideration the height of the person hiding them and where would they hide them. It took the fun out of it.
The realization that I'm growing up has came to me slowly. First it was when I got my first job working at a tanning salon and I would wake up and get ready for work and sometimes I would get to open and close the shop, just like my momma did years ago when she worked at a tanning salon.
Then I turned 15, took my driving test and the lady handed me my permit. It was like "Wow,I can drive!(with a parent or legal guardian)" Next it was last year when I was on my way to work driving by myself and heading to work on sewing stuff.
The time after that was when Momma sent me to the grocery store by myself for the first time. If you knew how I was just a few years ago you would understand why going to the grocery store was big for me. Momma would pull up and send me in there for hamburger buns and I came back out with hot dog buns, twice the same day. You send me in to pay for gas and I would hand the cashier the money and skip out the store. Only to have to go back and and get the change that I didn't think to wait for.
Then I became the main cook in my house. Which is really saying something because I'm the girl that can only cook lima beans to a crunch, I put cinnamon in fried green tomatoes, when I turn the oven on something burns and the closest I came to cooking a meal was ramen noodles. But according to my parents I have become quite the cook. I now come up with my own recipes sometimes.

While eating supper one night my daddy says "You've come a long way little buddy. With how you use to be, I use to worry that you would never know how to cook. You have come a long long way since then. Supper was good."

I have grown up a lot since I was four. I drive. I make money to buy stuff I want. I cook. I'm graduating high school next year. I pump my own gas,pay for it and walk out of the store with the change. Momma even sends me to the grocery store with a list now.
Just because I'm growing up doesn't mean I can't do things I did when I was younger. I won't be trying to get in a highchair anytime soon. But I can still color in coloring books, aggravate my sister, take naps and even swing with a mouth full of sixlets while listening to Taylor Swift on my iPod. As we get older some things have to change but we can still do other things, just in a different way. And I won't object to getting a baby doll at Christmas or being babied by my family anytime soon.

Life happened today while you were busy planning tomorrow.

Side note: It's okay to be in town by yourself and get in the backseat of the car only to realize you have to drive and you're by yourself. Just pray nobody saw you. :)

Music to my ears Mondays

I love music. It's so complex. It can make you happy, sad and just make you think. I love finding a song that isn't popular and listening to it for weeks and then once the radio stations start playing it, people start saying "I love this song!" and I smile thinking I loved it first.

I have this thing where I will pick a artist and read all of their lyrics, listen to all of their songs, and research  the artist and the stories behind the songs. When I hear a song  that I can relate to I love it. And when I hear the story behind the song, how it came to be, that gives the song a lot of meaning to me.

So every Monday I will write about music. And sometimes about the artist I researched the week before. Last week as I flipped through the channels I came across 'The Buddy Holly Story'. I had heard the song "American Pie" by Don McLean and researched it to find out that it's about when Buddy Holly, Richie Vallens and the Big Popper crashed in a field to their death in Clear Lake,Iowa. "The day the music died" So when I watched the movie about his career I  decided that would be the artist I researched. And here is what I found out.

Here is my favorite Buddy Holly songs.
1.That'll be the day- The song speaks for itself.
2.Everyday- You can't help but smile when you hear it.
3.It's so easy to fall in love- It is,So dang easy in fact.
4.Have you ever been lonely?- It reminds me of something that I would write.
5.Maybe baby- "You're the one that makes me glad and you're the one that makes me sad.

A pioneer of rock and roll, Buddy Holly set the standard for rock and roll. He was the first to write, sing and produce his music in that genre.
In his short lived career he bridged the racial divide in music that had an impact on America.
His last performance was on the night of February 2nd 1959.
The bus that had been taking the singers to their shows had been breaking down and the heat didn't work in the −25 °F temperatures.
Before the crash Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane, causing Holly to jokingly tell him, "I hope your ol' bus freezes up!" Jennings shot back jokingly, "Well, I hope your ol' plane crashes!" Him saying that haunted him for decades. The first song to commemorate the musicians was “Three Stars” by Eddie Cochran. This song was recorded just a single day after the disaster occurred.
After the plane crash authorities found it necessary, in the months following, to implement a policy against announcing victims’ names until after families had first been informed.

As a tribute to Buddy Holly, Elton John wore glasses while performing on stage. Elton John didn't need glasses but due to wearing glasses, his eyes became adjusted to them and then he really did need them. Another neat fact is that there wouldn't be "The Beatles" without him. They would probably be called something else. As a way to honor Buddy Holly and The Crickets, they decided to call their band "The Beatles" similar to "The Crickets".

He was 22 when he died and his career lasted less than four years. But the impact he made on music lasted long after he sang his last note.

Hey Ya'll

Why I started a blog. When I was younger and my teacher told the class to take out our journals and write at least two sentences down, you can guess how many I wrote. Two. Short and sweet. For example “Yesterday my sister and I played UNO. Then we flew a kite.” But I have come to appreciate writing now that I am older.
One of the reasons why I started this blog is because my cousin "S" told me I should get one like him. And I have thought about it for almost a year now. So why put off something for tomorrow when you can do it today? Because as much as we all would like to believe that we are,we are never promised tomorrow.
