If the 'Back to the Future' time machine car worked, I would be really tempted to use it.
Lately it seems like time is flying. I could sneeze and be blown into next week. Well not really but you get it. Some days I like feeling older. And others I want to swing with a mouth full of Sixlets while "Oops I did it again" blares over my boom box. Easter just passed and it was the first one since I was born that we haven't hid and looked for easter eggs. I stopped actually looking for them a long time ago when I started thinking strategically about it. Taking into consideration the height of the person hiding them and where would they hide them. It took the fun out of it.
The realization that I'm growing up has came to me slowly. First it was when I got my first job working at a tanning salon and I would wake up and get ready for work and sometimes I would get to open and close the shop, just like my momma did years ago when she worked at a tanning salon.
Then I turned 15, took my driving test and the lady handed me my permit. It was like "Wow,I can drive!(with a parent or legal guardian)" Next it was last year when I was on my way to work driving by myself and heading to work on sewing stuff.
The time after that was when Momma sent me to the grocery store by myself for the first time. If you knew how I was just a few years ago you would understand why going to the grocery store was big for me. Momma would pull up and send me in there for hamburger buns and I came back out with hot dog buns, twice the same day. You send me in to pay for gas and I would hand the cashier the money and skip out the store. Only to have to go back and and get the change that I didn't think to wait for.
Then I became the main cook in my house. Which is really saying something because I'm the girl that can only cook lima beans to a crunch, I put cinnamon in fried green tomatoes, when I turn the oven on something burns and the closest I came to cooking a meal was ramen noodles. But according to my parents I have become quite the cook. I now come up with my own recipes sometimes.
While eating supper one night my daddy says "You've come a long way little buddy. With how you use to be, I use to worry that you would never know how to cook. You have come a long long way since then. Supper was good."
I have grown up a lot since I was four. I drive. I make money to buy stuff I want. I cook. I'm graduating high school next year. I pump my own gas,pay for it and walk out of the store with the change. Momma even sends me to the grocery store with a list now.
Just because I'm growing up doesn't mean I can't do things I did when I was younger. I won't be trying to get in a highchair anytime soon. But I can still color in coloring books, aggravate my sister, take naps and even swing with a mouth full of sixlets while listening to Taylor Swift on my iPod. As we get older some things have to change but we can still do other things, just in a different way. And I won't object to getting a baby doll at Christmas or being babied by my family anytime soon.
Life happened today while you were busy planning tomorrow.
Side note: It's okay to be in town by yourself and get in the backseat of the car only to realize you have to drive and you're by yourself. Just pray nobody saw you. :)
